GRESSINGHAM DUCK DEBUTS AT INTERMEAT
26/08/2010
Speciality poultry producer Gressingham Foods is set to debut its famous Gressingham Duck in the German market at this year’s Intermeat exhibition in Düsseldorf.
The company – which is the exclusive global breeder of the Gressingham Duck – already supplies Britain’s ‘duck of choice’ to major supermarkets, independent retailers, butchers and an array of restaurants in the UK. With Germany increasingly demanding higher welfare standards from food producers, Gressingham believes that this is the ideal time to introduce its superior duck offering to the market.
The family-run business prides itself on maintaining rigorous welfare standards for its ducks, such as lower stocking densities, natural daylight and water for bathing as well as ensuring feed is made from cereals, with no unnecessary additives like bonemeal. These high standards of production are also, of course, complemented by the Gressingham Duck’s renowned higher content of breast meat, lower fat content and superior taste and texture.
William Buchanan, commercial managing director, comments: “While Germany’s duck market has grown significantly in the last few years, some of the producers traditionally supplying this market have not been able to meet the higher standards of breeding and welfare that the country’s consumers now demand. We’re confident that the Gressingham Duck will fill a gap in the market among retail and food service buyers seeking a premium product that is also produced to rigorous welfare standards.”
