Particularly one keyword is currently on the food industry’s mind: “Sustainability.“ Thanks to climate change, not just this industry is faced with a global challenge. Especially, greenhouse gas emissions are supposed to get restricted and reduced.

The food industry shows especially high interest in this. This is not surprising, because if you produce natural products, you also depend on saving nature. Food industry companies depend on agricultural produce to be able to supply people worldwide with high quality foods. “Corporate Social Responsibility“also plays an important role in any considerations for change. Ecological sustainability increasingly becomes the main principle in the food industry. In the fish and seafood segments much emphasis is placed on fishing while simultaneously preserving stock. In potato cultivation, leading corporations switched to cultivation and processing with sustainability in mind. Some plants use photovoltaic equipment to mostly cover their own power demands. Solar heating systems supply domestic hot water without CO² impact, and conscious waste management takes care of a reduction in newly emerging waste materials while placing recycling in the spotlight. Equally instrumental is the utilization of rainwater. Just by running it through a filter, large amounts of water are usually immediately available for use, without it having to be refined elaborately and more importantly without the need for long transportation routes. Under the guiding idea of environmental sustainability, manual tradition and industrial manufacturing don’t have to be in conflict with one another.
